Panthers forward Kai Hughes signs with the SIJHL’s Red Lake Miners

The Port Moody Panthers are proud to announce that forward Kai Hughes has signed with the Superior International Junior Hockey League’s Red Lake Miners to play in the Canadian Junior Hockey League for the 2023-24 season.

Hughes is a 2004-born forward from Vancouver who finished 2022-23 with nine goals and six assists for 15 points in 45 games. His goal total was sixth among all forwards on the Panthers roster this past season.

Acquired from White Rock in November 2021, Hughes has 10 goals and 13 assists in 59 career games in Port Moody split between the 2021-22 and 2022-23 seasons.

The 6-foot, 195 lbs. forward is the seventh player from last season’s Panthers team to advance to the BCHL or CJHL levels, joining forwards Jobey Pearson (OJHL), Dylan Emerson (BCHL), and Ryden Mathieson (BCHL), and defenders Bradley Thompson (SIJHL), Bruce Grey (NOJHL) and Johnny Lopez (OJHL). Hughes is the 12th player in the last three years to sign with a Major Junior, BCHL, or CJHL team from the Panthers.
